Greenwich

Immerse yourself in England’s rich scientific and maritime heritage in this UNESCO-listed ensemble of historic monuments.

About

Maritime Greenwich grew around the 16th century Palace of Placentia, and over the years grew to become the nation’s scientific and maritime centre. The 17th century Royal Observatory played a vital role in navigational developments like longitude, and of course, set the world’s time standard, and now houses a fascinating museum, and London’s only planetarium. Visitors can also head to the National Maritime Museum, the world’s largest on the subject, to learn about the island nation’s legendary seafaring history, including heroes like Admiral Nelson. To complete the experience, step aboard the famous Cutty Sark, the world’s last tea clipper, and the fastest ship in the world back in its day, to see what life at sea was like in the 19th century. The 17th century ‘Queens House’ was built for Anne of Denmark, and is considered one of the most important landmarks in all of Britain as it was the country’s first classical building, and now houses a sumptuous art museum.
