This historic country house was where almost-Nobel Laureate Karen Blixen was born, grew up, and penned her award-winning book Out of Africa.
The Karen Blixen Museum is housed in the 17th-century home where Karen Blixen was born and returned to after living in Kenya. Here, she penned her famous book Out of Africa, which was adapted into the film starring Meryl Streep and won seven Academy Awards. The house remains almost exactly as Blixen left it, including African furniture like Denys Finch Hatton’s favorite chair. Surrounding the house is a 40-acre property, now set aside as a bird sanctuary in accordance with her wishes.
