North Macedonia
Follow the narrow hiking trail into the foothills of the Belasica mountains to see one of Macedonia’s tallest waterfalls.
The Kolešino Waterfall is a feature of the Baba River. The water tumbles 62 feet (19 m) over a granite rockface before continuing towards the base of the valley formed by the Belasica mountain range on the Macedonian side. The waterfall can be viewed from the bridge directly in front, which spans the river’s width. Visitors can also admire it from a bench or gazebo on the trail that runs alongside the left of the waterfall, the perfect place for a snack! It is also possible to climb stairs to the top of the waterfall and continue hiking along the riverside against the current. The waterfall does tend to freeze solid in the winter months when water pressure and temperatures drop, but it comes back to life in the spring when the mountain snow melts.
