Where the riches of plains and river converge, there rises the capital of Los Rios. Babahoyo is not the traditional tourist city, it is a place where authentic life coexists with gorgeous scenery. From the houses rising on stilts from the river to the imposing cathedral with its elaborate murals, there is much to admire and see in this out of the way city. Serving as the convergent point between the coastal and mountain regions, Babahoyo has long been a center of trade and wealth. The Vinces District has even earned the moniker: Little Paris as grand mansions line it’s broad streets, a testament to the city’s power and prosperity. Perhaps the biggest draw are the cathedral’s murals which beautifully detail the Virgin Mary and other religious iconography. Further out from the city lie beautiful waterfalls, old plantations and plenty of greenery. Truly Babahoyo is a city of contrasts.
