Switzerland
This ancient town’s mineral-rich springs have been helping people relax since Roman times.
The mineral springs are an integral part of Baden’s identity - its name literally means ‘baths’ in German. It was "Aquae Helveticae" to the Romans, and a relaxing escape for the likes of Goethe, Nietzsche, and Dürrenmatt. Even today, the icon of the city is the unique thermal bath building designed by Mario Botta, which is both a meeting place, and visitor attraction. Elsewhere in the car-free old town, visitors will find the remains of the medieval Stein Castle, historic municipal buildings, and in the Langmatt Foundation, one of Switzerland’s finest art collections. There’s even a Swiss Children’s Museum, covering 300 years of the world of children.
