The working port city of Barranca primarily makes its living on fishing and agriculture, with most tourists just using it as a base for exploring the nearby archaeological site and natural landscapes. The heart of the city is its central plaza, where locals go about their business in front of the pretty yellow church. Recent investments have revamped the beachfront, and now Barranca’s stretch of soft white sand is arguably the best beach on the north coast. The waterfront promenade is lined with restaurants, so you can enjoy a beach view while dining on fresh seafood. A large statue of Jesus stand atop a rocky promontory overlooking the city, which offers panoramic views of the coast.
