Castillo de Loarre's history stretches back nearly a thousand years to its conception in the 11th century when it protected the border between the Muslim and Christian world. Over the centuries, the castle gradually grew in size, with additional rings of walls being added in 13th and 14th century. Today, the castle is often labelled as the most important Romanesque fortress in Spain, thanks in large part to its meticulous restoration. The stunning architecture and attracted many visitors, even some from the Hollywood studios. In 2005, director Ridley Scott used the castle as shooting location for his movie Kingdom of Heaven. Today visitors can learn about the castle's rich history by taking a tour through stone halls, and into the monks' quarters and chapel, while the towers and ramparts offer stupendous vies of the surrounding landscape.
