Ein Gedi

Israel’s largest desert oasis has been supporting communities of both humans and animals for millennia.

About

Covering 14 square kilometers on the eastern edge of the Judean Desert, the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve is one of the most diverse and most popular natural attractions in Israel. Several hiking trails wind their way through the reserve, offering everything from easy, half-hour walks to full-day treks. The most popular are those that go through Wadi David, which leads up to David’s waterfall through a beautiful, plant-filled river gorge, which contrasts with the surrounding rocky landscape inhabited by hyraxes and ibexis. Dedicated hikers can extend their visit by another 4 hours for a more challenging hike to the “upper section” where you’ll pass the beautiful Dodim’s Cave and other swimming holes before reaching the Ein Gedi Spring.
