Huamantla

This colorful city proudly celebrates its rich history and traditions at every possible opportunity.

About

The city of Huamantla, remains well-connected to its Spanish Colonial roots. Nothing says this more than its monument to the bull at the gate of the city. This monument is a nod to the age old practice of bull-fighting. Further to this tradition, at the old bullring, a museum is set up with many posters and information about the age, as well as the outfits of the Matadors and the trainers. This is also the city where modern Mexican puppetry came to be. You can visit and learn more about this beloved art at the Rosete Aranda National Puppet Museum. From the 31st of July to the 21st of August is the Huamantla Fair. This is where the city comes alive to show off its age-old crafts and culture. Here, ethical bullfighting takes place, a paella festival is put on and a beauty pageant takes place where they elect a Festival Queen! This is a great opportunity to spend a summer with cultural appreciation.
