The Ricardo Brennand Institute encompasses a stunning museum, an art gallery, a library, and an expansive park, making it a prominent cultural destination in Recife. The institute houses an extensive permanent collection of historical and artistic artifacts, spanning from the Early Middle Ages to the 20th century. Its focus lies in objects, documents, and artworks related to Colonial and Dutch Brazil, boasting the world's largest collection of paintings by Frans Post. The institute also houses one of the world's largest armory collections, comprising 3,000 pieces primarily from Europe and Asia, spanning the 14th to 19th centuries. Everything is housed in a castle-like structure known as the "Castelo de São João," which draws inspiration from the Tudor style, and includes a drawbridge, heraldic reliefs, and a Gothic altarpiece imported from Europe. Wander through the surrounding garden, featuring artificial lakes and impressive sculptures, including works by renowned artists like Auguste Rodin and Fernando Botero. The institution is open from 1PM to 5PM, Tuesday through Sunday, with tickets available for purchase online.
