Burundi
Fall for the Burundi's natural beauty at this series of impressive cascades.
The Kagera Falls, or Chutes de la Karera, is a series of waterfalls located in southeastern Burundi. This beautiful natural site occupies a whopping 142 hectares and encompasses several unique cascades. Nyakai I is a standout, and situated right next to the parking area. If you're feeling daring, hike to Nyakai II. While it's the smallest of the four falls it's a perfect spot for an impromptu dip. But the real showstopper is Karera Falls, the tallest waterfall in the area, which is fed by the merging Nyakai and Mwaro Falls. The cascade is so beautiful and important to locals that it's been added to the UNESCO World Heritage tentative List in the Hybrid (cultural and natural) category. The flow of the waterfalls varies by rainfall, so they are most impressive during the wet season.
