Levens Hall

The tremendous topiary garden surrounding this stunning Elizabethan manor is the oldest in the world.

About

Levens Hall began as a simple fortified tower in the 14th century, but during the Elizabethan era was extended and filled with splendid panelling and plasterwork, with further additions made in the 17th and 19th centuries. Home to the Bagot family for the past 400 years, the manor interior is filled with fine historic furnishings, including Cordova leather wall coverings, an amazing collection of Jacobean furniture, and an impressive are collection with paintings by Rubens, Lely, and Cuyp, as well as the earliest English patchwork. The world famous gardens date back to 1694, with topiaries, hedges, and colorful flower beds combining into an extraordinary environment. The topiary garden is made up of over 100 specimens sculpted into abstract shapes, pyramids, and even colossal chess men. Some of the shrubs are over 300 years old, making Levens Hall’s topiary the oldest in the world. For more information, please visit levenshall.co.uk
