Sweden
Home to the Saab headquarters, this IT hub has a surprisingly rich history.
Founded in the 12th century, Linköping was the site of the second diocese in Sweden. Despite its early religious importance, Linköping remained a small town until 1937, when the Saab Aerospace set up their headquarters here and ushered in a period of rapid expansion. While today the city is a tech-industry hub, it’s still dominated by its amazing medieval cathedral. The 13th century Linköping Castle is now home to the country sheriff of Östergötland county, but part of the building is used as a museum. At Gamla Linköping (Old Linköping) and Valla fritidsområde you’ll find early 19th century buildings that were saved from demolition and moved to this open air museum where citizens in period dress give visitors a taste of life gone by. The city is equally as proud of its modern developments, and is home to the Museum of the Swedish Air force and an interactive IT Museum
