Megaliths of Carnac

Local legend says the world’s largest megalithic ensemble is actually a Roman legion turned to stone by Merlin.

About

Built between 4500 and 3300 BC, the pre-Celtic people of Brittany carved out over 3000 giant pieces of stone to create this massive of collection of dolmens, tumuli, and single menhirs. Stretching for over 4 miles, archaeologists are still unsure what the site was used for. While the dolmens and tumuli were likely burial sites, with explanation for the rest of the ensemble ranges from the stones being an earthquake detector, to a lunar calendar.
