Menezes Braganca House

This remarkable mansion, the largest of its kind in Goa, offers a captivating glimpse into the opulent lifestyles of the Goan landed gentry during the era of Portuguese rule.

About

Menezes Braganza House stands as a testament to the grandeur of Portuguese architecture in 17th-century Goa, located prominently along Chandor's village square. Constructed in the 17th century and bestowed upon the Braganza family by the King of Portugal, this colossal house later underwent division into east and west wings upon inheritance by two sisters. The West Wing, currently owned by the Menezes-Bragança descendants, serves as a well-maintained museum-like space. Adorned with exquisite Belgian glass chandeliers, Italian marble floors, and antique treasures from Macau, Portugal, China, and Europe, it also houses the extensive library of Dr. Luís de Menezes Bragança, a key figure in the Goan Independence movement. Both wings are open to the public daily, offering an immersive experience into the rich history and cultural heritage of Goa. Guided tours, generously facilitated by family members or representatives, share captivating stories of a bygone era.
