New Zealand
Seals, penguins, and other creatures abound around this precipitous peninsula and its rocky islets.
Jutting out from the Catlins coast, Nugget Point is one of the area’s most iconic natural sights. Surrounded be steep cliffs, the headland eventually gives way to rocky islets (The Nuggets), which a historic lighthouse at the point warns passing ships of. After taking in the spectacular coastal panorama, peer over the precipice where you’ll find a colony of fur seals swimming in the surf, and seabirds like gannets and royal spoonbills flitting through the skies above. On the southern side of the point, Roaring Bay is home to a small colony of endangered yellow-eyed penguins.
