Italy
Set high on the hill, this medieval village is scenic with great views- and is no stranger to celebrity.
While the village dates back to the 9th century, it was the 14th century that still dominates the hilltop that provided protection for the village to grow. Today, two of the original four towers still stand, granting visitors great views of the surrounding valley - exactly what they were built for. The Piazza del Popolo, is home to the 17th century Chiesa Madre, with its large bell tower. Within the sedate, Mannerist facade, astounding Baroque stucco adorns the ceiling, as well as a baroque pulpit and confessionals, carved from solid walnut. The church also serves as a sanctuary for the relics of San Crescenzo, a Roman Legionnaire who converted to Christianity. Around the Piazza are a number of 16-19th century palaces and mansions, and ancient streets filled with and splendid views. While the village is well known for its beauty, it’s perhaps best known for being the home of Madonna's paternal grandparents.
