Paraguay
Pirayu
Beauty and history intertwine in this small city where colonial architecture and artifacts made by the indigenous people coexist.
About
Pirayu sits about 50 km outside Paraguayâs capital, Asuncion, and boasts some of the country's best of nature, history, and gastronomy. Lovely views surround the town as it lies within the Alto Mountains, while the Yvytypane, Mbatovi, and Santo Tomas hills are visible in the distance. The impressive PirayĂş Train Station, built in 1864, is a historical landmark because of its two towers, which differentiates it from any other train station constructed in the country at that time. In the center of town there is also the Our Lady of the Rosary Temple. Another historical structure, built in 1761, takes visitors back in time with hand crafted altarpieces and adornments, which were made by the indigenous Guarani people.
