Ecuador
Lying at the meeting point of four different ecological systems, this vast park is home to thousands of species of plants and animals.
Covering 1462.80 square kilometers at the easter end of the Andes, the Parque Nacional Podocarpus is one of the most important in the country as it lies at the intersection of the Northern Andes, Southern Andes, Amazonian, and Pacific ecological systems. Ranging in altitude from 1000 meters to over 3,000 meters the park is categorized as a megadiverse zone with a high number of endemic species. Entering in the 'Bombuscaro Sector' near the Bombuscaro River, a variety of trails work their way up into the mountain forests, offering everything from a quick thirty minute jaunt to a several-hour expedition, all the while immersing visitors in the wonder of nature - you even have to hike for 15 minutes to get to the info center from the parking lot!
