Provins
This UNESCO-protected town, with its well-preserved medieval walls and historic town center once hosted some of the largest fairs in Europe.
About
With its high walls and even higher towers, its easy to see Provins is special. In the 13th century, Provins was one of the European centers of commerce, regularly hosting important fares since the town was located on a commercial crossroads. The newly-gained wealth was reinvested into the town, local real-estate, and its fortifications. The good times don't last forever, and when war and plague befell the city in the 14th century, it fell into a slump. Not much has changed since then, so today, visitors can take a trip to past centuries and admire the medieval walls or the stunning 13th-century architecture throughout the small town of Provins.
