Struga comes to life in the summer as the warm weather brings out the best of Lake Ohrid. The lake is warm and inviting during the summer, and with three beaches, there is plenty of space to lay out or splash around. Every August, Struga hosts an international poetry festival, during which poets and fans from many countries meet to read and celebrate great poetry in many languages. The city also has the National Museum of Struga, which features permanent collections of local art, science, history, and ethnographic material culture. Its most well-known exhibit is of the hundreds of animal specimens from the surrounding area that were collected for scientific research in the early 1900s. Struga is considered a more intimate version of Ohrid and is a popular weekend trip for locals.
