Explore the mesmerizing lanes of an archaeological site, echoing tales of Saudi Arabia's past through its Arabian fairytale-esque architecture.
The old Deira, also referred to as Al Ula’s Old Town, is a renowned archaeological site located near Al Ula in the Madina Province. This site stands out for its vast collection of ancient heritage structures including mosques, markets, and other buildings that intertwine to form a captivating sand-colored maze. The historical remnants here trace their origins back approximately seven centuries. The town comprises around 900 homes, crafted from stones and mud bricks. These houses are packed closely, with only narrow alleys separating them. One of the site's crown jewels is the Al-Ula Castle, a majestic ancient structure that offers breathtaking views of Al Ula. Another point of interest for tourists is the Tantora Plaza, which centers around the iconic Tantora sundial. These days, a newly established handicraft pavilion sheds light on the crafts and arts that have been nurtured and passed down through generations, and the traditional shops at the site offer antiques and furniture.
