Vasquez Rocks
From One Million BC to Star Trek to Blazing Saddles, this rock outcrop has become a legendary location since its first film appearance in 1935.
About
Vasquez Rocks formed millions of years ago thanks to tectonic activity along the San Andreas fault forcing the slab of bedrock skyward. The dramatic rocky landscape first caught the eye of Hollywood in 1935, when Stanley Bergerman suggested they be used to portray Tibet in the film Werewolf of London. Since then, they’ve been featured in everything from Westerns to Sci-Fi, even earning the nickname “Kirk’s Rock” after being featured in several Star Trek episodes (remember that Lizardman fist fight?).
