Arlington Row, Bibury

The quaint medieval cottages that line this historic street are so picture-perfect they’re in the UK passport.

About

Arlington Row in Bibury was built in 1380 as a monastic wool store, but in the 17th century, the buildings were converted into a string of cottages for the town’s weavers. Today, the string of cottages are one of the most photographed sights in the Cotswolds, being preserved by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, and appearing in everything from Bridget Jones’ Diary to UK passports. In fact, the street is so picturesque that resident Peter Maddox’s ‘ugly little yellow car’ was vandalized in 2017 for ‘ruining’ pictures of the street. This in turn prompted a headline-making parade of yellow cars, which passed through the village in support of Peter’s plight.
