Arlington Row, Bibury
The quaint medieval cottages that line this historic street are so picture-perfect theyâre in the UK passport.
About
Arlington Row in Bibury was built in 1380 as a monastic wool store, but in the 17th century, the buildings were converted into a string of cottages for the townâs weavers. Today, the string of cottages are one of the most photographed sights in the Cotswolds, being preserved by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, and appearing in everything from Bridget Jonesâ Diary to UK passports. In fact, the street is so picturesque that resident Peter Maddoxâs âugly little yellow carâ was vandalized in 2017 for âruiningâ pictures of the street. This in turn prompted a headline-making parade of yellow cars, which passed through the village in support of Peterâs plight.
