Chimney Rock State Park

Take in North Carolina's in this striking forest where Last of the Mohicans was filmed.

About

Spanning 8,014 acres of forested foothills, the Chimney Rock State Park is a one-stop-shop for nature lovers. For over a century, visitors have flocked here for the view from the "top of the rock". And we mean that literally. The namesake Chimney Rock juts out 315 feet into the air, offering views across the forested river valley. It's possibly the best view in the state and well worth the 500 steps to reach the top. Nearby is the Devil’s Head, a huge boulder precariously perched on the sheer rock face. Then there's Hickory Nut Falls, a 404-foot cascade with movie-star beauty. You might recognize it if you've seen Last of the Mohicans (in fact, the last 20 minutes of the movie take place in the park).
