Neubrandenburg

This quiet city is famous for it’s medieval Brick Gothic architecture and the world’s best preserved defensive wall.

About

Although named “New” Brandenburg this city is almost 800 years old! Remarkably the city walls have survived pretty much intact through multiple wars and occupations, from the Swedes to the Soviets, and the four gates that gave the city it’s nickname have stood in-situ since at least the 1400’s. Neubrandenburg lies on the northern tip of Tollensesee, a 10km lake that’s ideal for boat cruises (minimum 90 minutes). A variety of watercraft can be rented from the Culture Park if you fancy a paddle rather than a tour. The Culture Park is a mixture of green spaces, trees, play parks, themed gardens, and art sculptures. Check out the galleries and museums too, such as the Neubrandenburg Art Collection with it’s 6000 pieces of artwork, or the Regional Museum Neubrandenburg set in a former Franciscan Monastery. For a bird’s eye view head to the viewing platform on the HKB building.
