Argentina
This beautiful art nouveau city is famed for its independent spirit and acceptance.
Birthplace of revolutionary Che Guevara and footballer Lionel Messi, Argentina’s third largest city is rich in culture, neoclassical architecture, and possesses a vibrant nightlife. It is widely regarded as the most liberal and tolerant city in the country. This bike-friendly city boasts a huge array of things to do and see, more than just walks along the 15km of lovely Paraná riverfront. The Monumento Nacional a la Bandera celebrates the creator of the nation’s flag, and panoramic views of the city can be seen from the top of the tower section. Museo Histórico Provincial, located in the middle of Parque Independencia (where you can paddle on the park’s lakes), has excellent exhibits from religious displays to indigenous artifacts, and a fascinating section on mate (the local herbal drink). Also worth a look is the Cathedral. The sombre facade of the Basilica Our Lady of Rosario belies the marble-adorned stunning interior.
