The Haggin Museum

Local history meets world-renowned art at this little-known museum.

About

The Haggin Museum was intended to just be a local history museum, but when Stockton native Robert McKee and his wife Eila Haggin McKee donated $30,000 to help open the museum, it received more than endowment: the McKee’s two stipulations were that the museum be named in honor of her late father, and that it include galleries to house her parents' art collection. So along with historic artifacts ranging from to fully furnished Victorian rooms to 19th century firefighting equipment and storefronts, to the trunk used by murderess Emma LeDoux in the infamous "trunk murder of 1906, are works from a surprisingly varied collection of prestigious American and international artists. The galleries are graced with wall-sized landscapes by Albert Bierstadt, the impressionist work of Renoir, Rodin’s proto-modern sculpture, and even illuminated manuscripts.
