Vrsar
Settled since prehistoric times, this ancient town has managed to retain its cultural history.
About
Set on a small hill, and surrounded by islets, Vrsar offers visitors beautiful views and stunning sunsets. If you look within the ancient, circular walls, you can see the remnants of thousands of years of occupation. Since very few buildings ventured outside the fortified walls until the 19th century, a walk through the old town is like walking through Vrsarās past. The townās gate, dating to the 13th century, is still in use, and the various churches showcase Christianityās architectural development. The remains of a 4th century basilica are in the walled-in backyard of the 12th century Romanesque basilica of St. Mary. The architecture isnāt the only history Vrsar has saved ā they also have an annual celebration to commemorate Casanovaās visits to the town. Art fans shouldnāt miss DuÅ”an Džamonjaās Park of Sculptures, which covers a hill with the world-renowned artistās work.
