A vast coastal park famous for cherry blossoms and endless flower fields. Your time at Hitachi Seaside Park is best spent exploring its wide-open spring landscapes. Walk beneath blooming cherry trees before heading to Miharashi Hill, where pale blue nemophila spread across the rolling terrain. This three-hour visit is perfect to wander the paved paths, stop at scenic overlooks, and photograph the contrast between flowers and open sky. Cafés and rest areas offer relaxed breaks along the way, while an amusement park is perfect for those wanting an energy boost. Entrance tickets are not included and should be bought separately.

Know more about your day trip

Peak bloom weeks, typically late April to mid-May, bring large crowds to the park. Arriving early in the morning helps you enjoy the flowers with fewer people. Weekdays are noticeably quieter than weekends. The park is open from 9:30 a.m., and giving yourself the full 3-hour stop allows plenty of time to explore without feeling rushed.
The park is approximately 77 miles (124 km) northeast of central Tokyo, in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki Prefecture. The drive takes around 1.5 hours in normal traffic, making it a straightforward day trip without an overly early start.
Most of the park's main paths and cycling routes are paved and accessible. The hill area around Miharashi Hill involves some inclines but is largely navigable for those with moderate mobility. Rest areas, restrooms, and benches are available throughout. Contacting the park directly before your visit if you have specific accessibility needs is recommended.
Very much so. Beyond the flower fields, the park has a small amusement park with over 25 rides, including a Ferris wheel and roller coaster. Most rides require separate fees paid at the gate. There are also cycling paths, rest areas, and wide open lawns, making it a comfortable and enjoyable day out for all ages.
Nemophila, also known as baby blue eyes, are small, delicate flowers with pale blue petals. At Hitachi Seaside Park, approximately 4.5 million of them cover Miharashi Hill each spring. Their peak bloom typically falls between late April and mid-May, but can shift depending on the year's temperatures. Checking live bloom updates closer to your trip is a good idea.
Spring is the most popular time, when nemophila flowers turn Miharashi Hill a vivid sky blue from late April to mid-May, and cherry blossoms bloom near the park entrance. Autumn is equally dramatic, with kokia bushes turning scarlet red from early to mid-October. Each season offers a completely different and spectacular landscape.
The park has cafes and rest areas scattered throughout its grounds, particularly near the main entrance and the Miharashi Hill area. Seasonal menus and light snacks are available. Bringing your own drinks is also a good idea for longer stays, especially during peak season when queues at food stalls can be longer.
Alongside nemophila, the park features a large narcissus garden near the main entrance blooming from mid-March, plus tulips and other spring flowers across the grounds. Cherry blossoms along the park's inner paths typically bloom in early April, overlapping briefly with the start of nemophila season.
