As you drive towards the foot of the majestic Grossglockner Mountain, the sheer size and power of the surrounding peaks, huge glaciers and the picture perfect elements of nature can be almost overwhelming. The views become more enticing as you head higher up the 30-mile long road, with its 36 hairpin bends. Stop and take a break at one of the many lookout points to capture a unique world of blossoming alpine meadows, fragrant mountain forests, massive cliffs and never-ending glaciers. The full range of nature is on show as you climb to the top, from areas thick with vegetation, cornfields down in the valley and of course, the eternal ice. The foot of the Grossglockner is reached at 8,200 feet, with a view of the longest glacier in the East Alps, the Pasterze. The mountain air, the stunning view of the Grossglockner and numerous waterfalls provide the perfect backdrop for visitors to relax and reenergize.
