Meaux Cathedral

Founded in the 12th century, construction was abandoned after the completion of the 60 meter north tower nearly 300 years later, leaving the church effectively incomplete compared to its original design. Because of this long construction process, the cathedral is like a timeline of the evolution of Gothic architecture, from the relatively simple style of the 12th century up to the extravagant Flamboyant style of the 15th. The exterior, with its asymmetric facade, is richly ornamented with gargoyles and traceries, and particularly ornate reliefs in the portals. Inside, visitors should pay special attention to the 15th century rose window, and 16th century stained glass windows, and magnificent 12th century organ.
