This small town off the beaten path is slowly gaining more attention for its artisanal craftsmanship. Explore the colorful plaza and peek into each souvenir shop to see what the inhabitants are creating each day. Then, make the winding 1 hour trek up the hill to the Monasterio de La Candelaria where you can see a 16th century chapel, a small museum, and lovely courtyard. The monastery is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm, but closed for lunch from 12:00pm-1:00pm, on Sundays you can be taken around the monastery by the monks themselves. For a spiritual experience within the town, there is a quaint church whose parishioners will be happy to share their local traditions with you!
