The Tham Chang Cave, literally meaning тАШloyalтАЩ or тАШsteadfastтАЩ cave, gets its name from its 19th century role as a refuge for locals hiding from Chinese Haw Bandits. Today, the cave is a well-maintained natural attraction, operated by the local resort. After crossing a bridge, visitors must climb a set of stairs to reach the cave mouth. If you need to take a break after the hike up, the blue-green waters of the of the small pool at the entrance are perfect for taking a dip. Inside the cave, colored lights illuminate both the natural ornamentation and a Buddha statue. Many of the cave formations have their own names and legends based on their shapes - keep an eye out for the elephant, naga hole, or wishing stalactite.
