Waddesdon Manor was built at the end of the 19th century in the style of a French Renaissance ch├вteau for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild. This breathtaking manor was a weekend residence for parties and showcasing the BaronтАЩs art collection. Today visitors can tour the lavishly furnished rooms where the Baron would entertain his friends. As one of the greatest art collectors of the 19th century, WaddesdonтАЩs collection showcases some stupendous pieces, such as two of the largest Guardi paintings in the world, and three of the ten remaining S├иvres ship-vases. The manor gardens are equally stupendous, filled with carpet bedding and hidden fountains, and crowned by the only surviving Rothschild aviary. Registered as a zoo, the aviary is an important breeding center for endangered species like the Rothschild's Mynah bird, which had a wild population of 6 in 2001.
