Housed in a stately 1632 building that once served as a VOC (Dutch East India) courtroom, the Westfries Museum is a portal to HoornтАЩs 17th-century heyday as a Dutch East India Company powerhouse. Its 25 rooms overflow with Golden Age treasures: VOC navigational instruments, guild silver, and paintings by masters like Jan van Goyen, although 21 artworks were infamously stolen in a 2005 heist. Highlights include the Bossu Goblet, a 1530s silver-gilt masterpiece, and a 1602 double portrait of the Sonck couple, among the oldest known Dutch group portraits. Please note that while the original building is under renovation, the exhibitions will be held at nearby locations until 2027.
