It is claimed that elegant Zbiroh Chateau harbors many secrets. This is not surprising considering this is where European royalty stayed at one time or another and was the Central European Headquarters of the Freemasons in the early 1900s while the Nazis made it their command center in 1938. Today, the chateau and its scenic surroundings are a favorite short-stay destination and a popular wedding venue. Tours are available so visitors can delve into the chateau’s past and the history of the Knights Templar. One of its more famous guests over the years was Alphonse Mucha, the Czech artist and key figure in the Art Nouveau movement and as a tribute to his influence the chateau houses a permanent exhibition of his work.
