Early Timisoara

The first official records of Timisoara in 1212 show that the city was once a Roman fortress named Temesiensis. A few decades after its mention, the Tatars destroyed the town during the Mongol invasion of Europe.

After its rebuild, Charles I of Hungary ordered the conversion of robust defensive structures and stone walls around the palace. These fortifications allowed the city to flourish as a trade route between Europe and the Islamic world during the medieval ages.

You can travel by train with CFR Calatori. But you cannot reserve a seat online. Instead, you must travel to Beograd Centar and purchase a ticket at the counter. The shortest journey requires a change at Novi Sad, Subotica, Szeged, and Bekescsaba. Then, you'll arrive at Timisoara Nord.
