About Paris

Taking a road trip from Düsseldorf to Paris is nothing short of spectacular. After all, your destination speaks for itself, it’s Paris! Hailed as the best city in the world by Euromonitor International and the world’s most powerful city by the World Travel & Tourism Council, Paris is a magical experience.

It is the capital and most populous city of France. Since the 1800s, Paris has been among the global centers of fashion, commerce, finance, diplomacy, gastronomy, and culture. According to statistics, the total number of tourist arrivals to Paris exceeded 40 million in 2022.

This city stands as a monumental urban and cultural center in the heart of France. Its foundations date back to the third century BC when it was established by a Gallic tribe. Over centuries, Paris went through several pivotal moments, such as Roman conquests, its flourishing during the Middle Ages, the Renaissance when several of its landmarks were constructed, and its critical role during the French Revolution.

Don’t miss visiting these places while you’re in Paris:

  • Eiffel Tower
  • Louvre Museum
  • Arc de Triomphe
  • Notre-Dame
  • Palace of Versailles
  • Sainte-Chapelle
  • Disneyland Paris
  • Fondation Louis Vuitton
  • Shakespeare and Company

But beyond those marvels, Paris is also a center for cultural events. For one, designers, celebrities, models, and influencers gather at Paris Fashion Week, a globally anticipated event. Furthermore, the city’s culinary scene is also beyond measure. Aside from the famous croissant, be sure to try some haute cuisines and dine in at bistros around the city.

From Düsseldorf to Paris: travel tips

Be sure to plan your trip from Düsseldorf to Paris ahead of time to ensure a smooth travel experience.

Pack for walking

Paris is huge and you’ll be walking a lot around the city, so comfortable walking shoes are a must. To capture every moment on foot be sure to bring your power bank with you. You don't want your phone battery dying at the top of the Eiffel Tower!

Prepare for your explorations

Familiarize yourself with basic French phrases. This will help you talk to locals if you need help finding directions. Ensure you have navigation apps like Google Maps on your phone, and keep some cash on hand. Even if Paris has embraced modernity, there are still smaller towns where digital payments may not be accepted.

Book in advance

Paris is one of the most popular destinations in the world, so pre-book everything in advance! Accommodation in the most desirable neighborhoods and near landmarks like the Eiffel Tower fill up quickly. Likewise with museums and restaurants, especially in the summer! Finally, booking transportation in advance will get you the best prices.

How to get from Düsseldorf to Paris

As two well-connected Western European cities, you have plenty of ways to get from Düsseldorf to Paris. How you travel depends on your preferences. Do you want it cheap, fast, or do you want to fill your holiday with as many experiences as possible?

Düsseldorf to Paris by train

Your first option for getting from Düsseldorf to Paris is by train. Riding the train offers a balance of speed and comfort. One of the best services is the Thalys high-speed train, allowing you to reach Paris in just under four hours. Tickets can get expensive if you book last minute, so to secure better rates, buy your tickets in advance.

Düsseldorf to Paris by bus

Buses are still the most economical option, though travel time takes longer, specifically up to six hours. Also, you won’t get maximum convenience as buses provide limited legroom and facilities. This may not be the best choice if you want to reach Paris in the fastest possible time. Bus ticket prices start at $46 (42 euros).

Düsseldorf to Paris by plane

For those who want the fastest method, choose to take a flight, which will take you around four hours, including check-in and commute times to and from airports. But this option is also way more expensive. A flight ticket ranges from $102 (93 euros) to as high as $346 (317 euros).

Düsseldorf to Paris by rental car

Buses may be economical, but facilities are limited. Airplanes may be fast, but a flight ticket is expensive. For a way that will give you more freedom to visit places, choose to go on a road trip. While the travel time takes about five hours, you’ll be able to stop by cities such as Brussels and Reims without having to rush. The big drawback is navigating Paris' streets and finding parking.

Düsseldorf to Paris with Daytrip

A private transfer with Daytrip gives all the advantages of driving without the stress of navigating foreign roads. With Daytrip, your English-speaking driver will pick you up at your accommodation in Düsseldorf at your desired departure time, and load your luggage before hitting the road to Paris.

The drive without stops takes about 5 hours, and once you arrive in Paris, you'll be brought to the front door of your hotel. You won't need to try to find your way or secure parking and then bring your luggage on foot!

Things to do when you get to Paris

Right as you get from Düsseldorf to Paris, there are lots of things to do and experiences to cherish for a lifetime. Here are the best activities for your dream destination.

Take a selfie with the Eiffel Tower

A bit cliche, but definitely worth it. While it's still true that you haven’t been to Paris if you haven’t visited the Eiffel Tower, today, social media says you haven’t been to a city if you haven’t taken your selfie with its iconic monuments. The Eiffel Tower needs no intro. The wrought-iron lattice landmark is the city’s symbol, showing off 360-degree views from its second and top floors, which are almost 900 feet high. There are tickets, so make sure to buy them early.

See iconic artworks at the Louvre Museum

Of course, the Louvre Museum. Film buffs know this place as the setting of the movie adaptation of “The Da Vinci Code”. Once a palace that housed French kings, the Louvre is now a museum featuring collections spanning 10,000 years of history. Some of the artworks here are the Venus de Milo, the Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, and Botticelli frescoes, among others.

Watch the 19th-century cabaret, Moulin Rouge

As much as you’d like to grab a seat at Paris Fashion Week, it’s difficult as it’s a strictly by-invite-only event. The only thing you can do is wait outside the venues if you want to spot and take photos of celebrities. But don’t worry, you can still get a taste of authentic Parisian culture with shows like the Moulin Rouge. Ticket prices start at $95 (87 euros).

More not-to-miss experiences in Paris are catching a ballet performance at Palais Garnier, getting a taste of French cuisine, and shopping at Champs-Élysées.

When is the best time to visit Paris

Knowing the best time to visit will ensure your trip from Düsseldorf to Paris will be memorable. The spring period from April to June and the autumn months from September to October are widely regarded as the perfect times to visit. You’ll find mild weather, fewer crowds, and pleasant conditions for walking tours.

Additionally, these months also coincide with important cultural and sporting events like the French Open and the Autumn Festival, further giving you that quintessential Parisian experience. Visiting during these seasons will also allow you to enjoy outdoor cafés and river cruises on the Seine.

Great communication with an actual person! They will take you ANYWHERE, No pre-set routes to choose from!

Last minute plan change and Daytrip was our last resort so I chatted with them and had an immediate response from a real person, best situation ever. Never used Daytrip before but the reviews were incredible so we took the chance and booked a driver at like 11-12pm and by 7am the next morning when we woke, they found us a driver and the driver had already texed us making contact! Very impressed and will definitely use them again. We went from Dubrovnik, Croatia to Tivat, Montenegro.

Perfect Transport

Andreas did a great job picking us up from Pireaus Cruise Port and taking us to our rental in Spata. The three of us had been on a long cruise and had 9 pieces of luggage. He arrived in an appropriate vehicle and loaded and unloaded all of it. We are very happy with out decision to book with Daytrip.

Exactly what they promised

We used Daytrip.com for 4 trips within Italy. This door-to-door service is not inexpensive. That said: All 4 drivers arrived on time. All spoke fluent English. All were excellent drivers, and all were kind and considerate. Lots of other things went wrong on this trip, but Daytrip.com did exactly what they promised.
