About Strasbourg

The Capital of Christmas is the final stop on your enchanting tour from Rothenburg ob der Tauber to Strasbourg. It's also the capital of Alsace, home to almost 490,000 locals. Its location along the Ill River and distance to the German frontier were pivotal in shaping the region's past and developing its unique ways of life today.

The Romans founded the town as a military outpost in 12 BC. But after the Empire's collapse, German and French forces constantly fought for control for centuries. Unfortunately, Nazi Germany nearly destroyed the city twice during the World Wars. But thanks to the local spirit, civilians helped rebuild the city to its stunning setting today.

On the surface, Strasbourg doesn't seem like a 21st-century city. Colorful Germanic-looking buildings litter themselves throughout La Petite France. Whether exploring the narrow Alsatian lanes on foot or winding the picturesque canals by boat, you'll always come across a traditional tavern that wouldn't look out of place in a Harry Potter movie. However, most people know the area for its beautiful Christmas markets, where mulled wine flows as freely as locals moving through the maze of bright, festive decorations!

From Rothenburg ob der Tauber to Strasbourg: travel tips

Whether it's to avoid mishaps or enhance the overall experience, there are a few insider travel tips to know when traveling from Rothenburg ob der Tauber to Strasbourg. Luckily, our travel experts and local divers will share some with you!

Book tickets in advance

Due to Rothenburg ob der Tauber's remote location, there isn't a vast public transport network to Strasbourg. Many services require changes in other cities, so prices can skyrocket if you wait until the last minute. In fact, you can even end up stranded if one leg sells out (though that's not something you have to worry about with Daytrip's door-to-door car service)! Also, by booking early, you'll guarantee a seat at your desired time and date.

Explore hidden Bavaria

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "It's not the destination. It's the journey." And we agree.

Many tourists are disappointed when they speed past sights such as the exquisite Rastatt Castle, the charming city of Speyer, and even the UNESCO-listed Maulbronn Monastery. But when you ride with Daytrip, you can visit these sightseeing stops and more! Build an itinerary with sightseeing stops before you set off!

Learn some basic phrases

Most establishments in the tourism industry will be able to speak English. However, if you go off the beaten path or want to enjoy a meal at a traditional restaurant, you should learn a few basic phrases. Locals will also appreciate the effort and will likely go above and beyond to cater to your needs.

Great communication with an actual person! They will take you ANYWHERE, No pre-set routes to choose from!

Last minute plan change and Daytrip was our last resort so I chatted with them and had an immediate response from a real person, best situation ever. Never used Daytrip before but the reviews were incredible so we took the chance and booked a driver at like 11-12pm and by 7am the next morning when we woke, they found us a driver and the driver had already texed us making contact! Very impressed and will definitely use them again. We went from Dubrovnik, Croatia to Tivat, Montenegro.

Perfect Transport

Andreas did a great job picking us up from Pireaus Cruise Port and taking us to our rental in Spata. The three of us had been on a long cruise and had 9 pieces of luggage. He arrived in an appropriate vehicle and loaded and unloaded all of it. We are very happy with out decision to book with Daytrip.

Exactly what they promised

We used Daytrip.com for 4 trips within Italy. This door-to-door service is not inexpensive. That said: All 4 drivers arrived on time. All spoke fluent English. All were excellent drivers, and all were kind and considerate. Lots of other things went wrong on this trip, but Daytrip.com did exactly what they promised.
