One legendary tree draws visitors from across Japan each spring. Your stop at the over-thousand-year-old Miharu Takizakura cherry tree centers on quiet observation and perspective. Walk the gently sloping paths around the tree, stopping at designated viewpoints that reveal its dramatic shape and sprawling branches. Plan around an hour to explore, photograph, and enjoy the surrounding countryside. Informational signs explain the tree’s history and cultural importance, offering context to its national fame. Continue toward Miharashi Hill, where rolling landscapes are covered with baby blue nemophila during spring, creating one of Japan’s most iconic photo opportunities. Tulips and other spring flowers add bright color beneath the blossoms, while paved paths lead to panoramic viewpoints across the park and coastline. Explore on foot or by rental bike, with time to relax at cafés, rest areas, or visit the on-site amusement park. Please note that admission tickets for the park must be purchased separately.

Daytrip is loved all around the world. Here's why.
Yes, the park has well-maintained paved paths throughout. Visitors can explore comfortably on foot during a 3-hour visit, especially the Miharashi Hill area and the cherry blossom sections near the park entrance. Rental bicycles are also available within the park for those who want to cover more ground.
The Miharu Takizakura tree is located in Miharu, Fukushima Prefecture, approximately 153 miles (246 km) from central Tokyo. The drive takes around 3 hours. Due to the distance, this trip is best suited to travelers who want to make the most of the day and leave early in the morning.
Hitachi Seaside Park is closed on Tuesdays (or the following Wednesday if Tuesday falls on a public holiday), as well as during the first week of February and on December 31 and January 1. Opening hours are generally 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., though hours extend during summer. Admission must be purchased at the gate, and we recommend checking the opening hours before booking your trip.
Yes, a small entrance fee is charged during cherry blossom season to support the tree's conservation. Payment is collected at the site. Exact fees may vary year to year. The Daytrip price does not include this charge, so bring some local currency for your visit.
Hitachi Seaside Park is best known for its spectacular blue nemophila flowers, which blanket Miharashi Hill every spring, creating a striking contrast against the sky. Cherry blossoms and tulips also bloom in spring. In autumn, the same hill transforms with fiery red kochia bushes. The park spans a vast area with cycling paths, cafes, and an amusement park.
The two stops are roughly 50 miles (80 km) apart within Ibaraki and Fukushima prefectures. The drive between them takes approximately 1 hour and is largely via expressway, passing through green Tohoku scenery. Your driver will handle all navigation and timing so you can relax between stops.
Miharu Takizakura is estimated to be over 1,000 years old and is one of Japan's three greatest cherry trees. Unlike the sea of identical Somei Yoshino trees seen in most parks, this solitary weeping cherry spreads its branches up to 20 meters wide, creating a cascading, waterfall-like effect that is unlike anything else in Japan.
The tree typically blooms around mid-April, roughly two weeks after cherry blossoms peak in central Tokyo. The exact dates vary by year, so checking live bloom forecasts closer to your trip is advisable. Since this is a single tree with a brief window of peak beauty, timing your visit during bloom is highly recommended.
