The Jameson Distillery Bow St. in Dublin offers a 45-minute guided tour through the historic distillery where Jameson was produced until 1975. The experience includes the history of Jameson, a comparative whiskey tasting session, and a complimentary Jameson drink at JJ's Bar. Though production no longer takes place here, the tour provides interactive exhibits demonstrating the whiskey-making process. Advanced booking is recommended as tours frequently sell out.
Tullamore D.E.W. Distillery in Tullamore, County Offaly, offers a state-of-the-art facility showcasing both traditional and modern whiskey-making techniques. The distillery is known for its triple blend of pot still, malt, and grain whiskeys triple-distilled for exceptional smoothness. Visitors can experience the full production process from distillation to maturation and learn the art of blending whiskey.
The journey from Dublin to Jameson Distillery Bow St. is minimal as it's located in Dublin's Smithfield area, about 2 km from the city center. Traveling to Tullamore D.E.W. Distillery takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes (70 miles/112 kilometers) west of Dublin. Both distilleries offer excellent gift shops with exclusive whiskey bottlings, branded merchandise, and whiskey accessories. Jameson Distillery Bow St. features limited-edition bottles only available at the distillery. Other popular souvenirs include whiskey glasses, clothing items, and Irish-made craft products.
Photography is generally permitted in most areas of both distilleries, particularly in the visitor center areas and bars. Some production areas may have restrictions for safety or proprietary reasons, especially in Tullamore where actual whiskey production takes place. Flash photography is typically not allowed near the stills and production equipment. Your tour guide will clearly indicate any areas where photography isn't permitted.
