Munich welcomes you to enjoy Oktoberfest, the world’s largest beer festival.
From late September to early October, travelers flock to Munich to enjoy Oktoberfest. This iconic beer and folk festival originated in 1810 to commemorate the wedding of a Bavarian prince. Now, the festival features 14 massive tents and over 20 smaller ones, each packed with music, local food, and of course, plenty of beer from Munich’s traditional breweries. The events of the festival include parades and traditional costumes, as well as ceremonies such as the tapping of the first keg by Munich’s mayor. Indulge in the beer, the sausages, and Gebrannte Mandeln, and step outside of the tents to enjoy classic fairground attractions like Ferris wheels.

The distance between Nuremberg and Munich is approximately 103 miles (166 km), which takes about 2 hours by car. Our professional drivers ensure a comfortable journey along this scenic route.
Munich offers numerous attractions worth visiting including Marienplatz with its famous Glockenspiel clocktower, the impressive Frauenkirche cathedral with its distinctive domed towers, the sprawling English Garden, the vibrant Viktualienmarkt food market, and the world-class Deutsches Museum. Then, of course, there's Oktoberfest.
While one day allows you to see Munich's main highlights, the city deserves more time for a thorough exploration. Our day trip provides about 6-7 hours in the city, enough to visit the historic center, enjoy traditional Bavarian food, and see 2-3 major attractions.
The best time to visit is from April to October when weather is pleasant for walking tours. December is magical for Christmas markets in both cities. Summer (June-August) offers longer daylight hours but more tourists. Spring and fall provide mild temperatures and fewer crowds. Winter can be cold but charming with possible snow scenes.
Oktoberfest runs from mid- to late September to mid-October. The Munich Oktoberfest is the largest in Germany and brings international visitors from all over the world.
Pack comfortable walking shoes as you'll explore Munich on foot, a water bottle, weather-appropriate clothing (layers are recommended), a camera for capturing memories, some snacks for the journey, and a small day bag for your essentials. In summer, don't forget sunscreen and sunglasses. In winter, bring warm accessories.
