Bosnia and Herzegovina
While its name means 'between the hills', this small village is a sacred destination for millions of pilgrims.
The village of Medjugorje is located in the southern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, close to the Croatian border. The small parish is made up of five villages, where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to six people in 1981. Apparition Hill, a religious mecca, is the site where the first apparitions of the Virgin Mary were documented. The rocky path up to high hill gives way to a serene statue of Our Lady and a cross. It’s a place where many come to reflect and pray. Visitors also gather at St. James Church for daily mass. Medjugorje is visited by million of pilgrims each year who hope to find inner peace and strength through reflection and prayer.
