Hardwick Park has its roots in the 18th century when businessman John Burdon began to develop the grounds. Not only did he extend the lake, he added 40 acres of ornamental features including an artificial river, temples, grottoes, and follies. While the park wasn’t maintained particularly well in the following centuries, the garden still retains its core 18th century design. Today, a walk through the park combines the natural beauty of the lake and woodland with historic buildings and statues. At the visitor center you can learn about the park’s history, and its extensive restoration through interactive displays.The park also puts on a variety of events throughout the year.
