Hungary
This medieval church is considered the finest example Romanesque architecture in Hungary thanks to its elegant lines and exceptional sculptures.
Founded in the 13th century this splendid abbey church church had to be repaired and renovated several times over the course of its long history. Today, the church is considered one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in the country. The church is most famous for the many carvings accenting its facade, culminating in the detailed doorway. Inside, visitors can view the former abbot’s residence, where local artefacts are on display, or examine the baroque altars, which stand in contrast to the otherwise austere interior.
