Constructed in 1116, this resplendent Romanesque edifice is the fourth generation church on the site, and is Cataloniaās only surviving church from the era. The exemplary facade, with its three entrances, incorporates influence from the Italian Lombards. Inside, its choir, railings, stained glass windows, and reredos date from the 15th century, with some 18th century Baroque elements added for extra flare. The beautiful cloister is full of carved capitals depicting mythical beasts and grimacing gargoyles. The attached museum contains an extensive collection Romanesque frescoes from various churches, as well as a copy of the 10th-century Beatus de LiĆ©bana, the medieval illustrated manuscript par excellence, as well as the Commentary of the Apocalypse, a Mozarab miniature from the 10th century.

Yes, with an early departure, it's possible to visit both La Seu d'Urgell and spend a few hours in Andorra before returning to Barcelona in the evening. A private driver makes the long journey more comfortable and efficient.
