Aci Castello
Itâs said the picturesque islands off the coast of this quiet fishing village were thrown at Odysseus by a cyclops.
About
According to Greek mythology, the little fishing village of Acitrezza was once home to the cyclops, which hurled giant boulders at Odysseus as he sailed past, forming the Cyclopean Isles. Today, theses 8 basalt islands are a landmark of Aci Trezzaâs coast. After enjoying a walk along the seaside promenade, visitors can enjoy some of the townâs other landmarks, such as the Casa del Nespolo. This 19th century structure was described in âI Malavogliaâ by G. Verga and now houses the town museum in two rooms. One is dedicated to the movie âThe Earth Shakesâ, which was filmed in town, and the other exhibits the tools and everyday objects of a 19th century fishing village. In the nearby Aci Castello, visitors will find an 11th century Norman castle that now houses a museum dedicated to the townâs history.
