Apenheul Primate Park
The only zoo of its kind, monkeys are free to walk alongside guests.
About
In the late 1960s, Rotterdam-based photographer Wim Mager gave up his profession to devote himself to his two pet tamarins. He figured a more natural environment would make the animals and those that encountered them happier. Apenheul started with a few smaller species such as spider monkeys, but now Magerâs brain-child is now home to over 70 species of monkeys, including orangutans and gorillas. To this day, many species are free to roam, while the larger apes have spacious areas all to themselves.
