Archaeological Site of Isthmia
This ancient city, dedicated to Poseidon, was renowned across the ancient world for its games.
About
Between about 500 BC and 500 AD, the sanctuary of Isthmia held games every two years, second in size only to the games held at Olympia. The rest of the year, visitors came for the sanctuaries, the largest of the time, which were devoted to the god Poseidon. Today, visitors can learn about the fascinating history of the site that stretches to 700 BCE, walk through the ancient stadium, bath buildings, or sanctuaries.
